What is a Death Doula?

A death doula, sometimes referred to as an End-of-Life Doula, is someone who assists and supports through the dying process. The support is specific to each person and takes into account their needs, beliefs, values, and wishes.

Death Doulas are able to provide emotional, logistical, and spiritual support for the dying and their loved ones and assist in preparing a physical space for death. In my practice, I focus on death education, vigils, rituals, respite & companionship, and legacy projects; as well as provide and facilitate a positive approach to death and dying.

My name is Megan and I am a Certified Death Doula, as well as a nurse, working locally at Cowichan District Hospital, and Cowichan Hospice. I discovered a love for assisting patients and families on their end-of-life journey and I felt that the societal stance on death and dying was outdated. I intend to help individuals and their loved ones embrace death, create memories, and heal.

My Approach

Death is not an event, but a journey;

Through my practice, I can assist clients in varying ways during end-of-life. I aim to ensure the wishes and needs of you or your loved one are heard and respected with intent to bring as many to fruition as realistically possible. I provide non-medical support, but my background in nursing can be utilized to help educate and advocate throughout the dying process. I enter all interactions with an open heart and mind, creating a safe space for clients and families to share what is most important during one of the most intimate life stages.

Some of the services provided include:
